Is there a difference between silk and satin?
Yes. Sometimes the terms “silk” and “satin” are misused interchangeably but they are very different. Sleeping on silk vs. satin sheets is an entirely different experience. Silk is a natural protein fiber while satin is synthetic and typically made of fibers such as nylon or polyester. Synthetic satin and natural silk also feel different; polyester satin is “slippery” while silk is softer in feel with reduced friction due to the charmeuse weave. Unlike synthetic fabrics, Silk is also temperature regulating, hypoallergenic, and resistant to mold, mildew, and dust mites.
