Why LS Silk

Good silk should be easy to understand.

Mulberry silk, momme, grades and certifications — each tells you something different about a piece.

Here, we explain the materials we choose, what the details mean, and how to care for your silk.

Pure Mulberry Silk

We use 100% mulberry silk fabric for our pillowcases, silk sleepwear, bonnets and silk scarves.

Chosen for its smooth feel, natural lustre and fluid drape, it brings softness and beauty to the pieces you use every day.

A Weight for Each Piece

Momme is a measure of silk fabric weight. We choose different weights to suit the way each piece is worn and used.

Each choice balances the feel, drape and substance of the fabric.

22 Momme

Pillowcases, eye masks and scrunchies. Fuller and more substantial, for the pieces you reach for every day.

19 Momme

Nightgowns and bonnets. A little lighter, so the silk falls softly and moves with you.

Pink floral silk twill gathered in soft folds

14–18 Momme

Custom silk twill scarves. Light enough to fold, tie and drape.

Weight is one part of the picture. Fibre quality, weaving and finishing matter too.

What momme means in g/m2

One momme is about 4.3 grams per square metre. That makes 22 momme about 95 g/m2, 19 momme about 82 g/m2 and 14–18 momme about 61–78 g/m2.

What the Label Means

Grade 6A

We use 6A silk across our silk pieces. 6A is a quality grade used in the silk trade, not an independent certification.

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100

Our silk pieces are made from silk certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, which means the silk has been tested for harmful substances.

Care for Everyday Silk

A little care helps preserve the beauty of silk. Always follow the care label for your piece.

  • Wash by hand in cool water, below 30°C, or on a silk or delicate cycle in a mesh bag if the care label allows.
  • Use a detergent suitable for silk. No bleach or fabric softener.
  • Don’t wring. Press gently between two towels, then air dry out of direct sunlight.
